The Gentle form of Ayurvedic Cleanse

Ayurvedic cleanses are a form of body purification, a specialized therapy designed to eliminate diseased tissues in the body. Ayurvedic medicine states that disease is caused by an imbalance of the three doshas (biological humors/ tissues), which are related to the three prevailing forces on earth wind (vata), sun (pitta), and moon (kapha). An Ayurvedic cleanse is prescribed to return the three doshas back to balance and to combat diseases resulting from these imbalances. Ayurvedic cleanses also make the body strong enough to prevent disease in the future. The power and effectiveness of the cleanse therapy comes from the system used to guide the toxins out of the places in the body where they have accumulated. After being driven out of the tissues, toxins are flushed from the body.

Toxic substances can easily accumulate in the body through a variety of everyday activities. The foods we eat are one of the easiest vectors for toxic buildups, but our behaviors and thoughts can also add to toxins and inflammation in our bodies. Our bodies can become stressed if we eat too many processed foods, don’t get enough exercise or get outdoors enough, and if we think bad, angry thoughts. This stress prevents the body from operating optimally, which allows toxins to accumulate. If the toxins and inflammation stay in the body too long, diseases like cancer and Crohn’s Disease can easily develop.

The first step in an Ayurvedic cleanse is usually to reduce the amount of accumulated toxins in a person’s system. A mild version of this cleanse is called Pallination and it has seven parts: fasting or light diet, restriction of fluid intake, exercises, sunbathing, exposure to fresh air, consuming herbs that improve digestion, and taking herbs that destroy accumulated toxins.

If conducted correctly, with the guidance of a trained Ayurvedic professional, pallination is a gentle cleansing technique that can release toxins that have accumulated in an individual’s doshas. This allows the body to effectively eliminate any remaining toxins and opens channels within the body, which allows energy to smoothly flow. These techniques are also an excellent way to prepare for more extreme detox programs such as Pancha Karma. While following a prescribed pallination program is best, anyone can adopt some of the elements in this cleanse technique to improve digestion, circulation, and overall energy.
